  • Susie Meiselman
Last weekend my grandson, Brandon Baumwoll, called me to tell me that Spencer came to him in a dream. Spencer said he was a little disappointed in the way Brandon was acting lately. Brandon was so affected by this that he promised he would behave better from now on. The family was getting ready to go to the gravesite when my grandaughter Alex stated, "I hate the wind. The wind killed Spencer." The way Spencer touched and continues to touch our lives should give you some comfort from your loss. We all miss him.

  • janet

June 26, 2006 -- Hi Debbie: I wrote a volume of words and rewrote them and deleted and wrote them again and now again I have to delete. The words don't say what is in my heart, I cannot translate those feeling to English. Just know I am still thinking about and praying for you.

  • TJ Debbie Clark
To everyone: Our family would really like to thank everyone who has posted messages, flowers and cards. Your sincere words are very important in remebering all the lives Spencer has touch. We are doing OK, just taking one moment at a time. I cant even begin to tell of the heartbreak that we feel. But we have hope, and we know where Spencer stood with the Lord, and we have peace with that. Please keep in touch with our family, we so need that as we find a new normal way of life.

  • Brandon Baumwoll

June 1, 2006: Debbie--you are still in my thoughts and prayers.

  • janet
Debbie: It was beautiful what everyone did in honor of Spencer at last night's Irwindale race. And there were so many people, that had so many good things to say. Ryan Partridge painting his car up for Spencer was very moving, the empty hauler spot, the 23 alone on the scoring, the missing car in the warmup, Bob's prayer and moment of silence. It all was so, so well done. You would have been proud. I imagine the Las Vegas tribute was very moving. I am sure Spencer felt the love last night.

  • Natasha

I came to know Drew through Tiffany and Jay. I can honestly say that he had a heart of gold and a very contagious laugh. Drew has touched so many people's hearts and had such an impact on many lives that it is hard to believe he is gone. Drew will live on in our hearts and memories forever. Tiffany and Jay, I hope you know that Drew will always be your guardian angel. My thoughts and prayers go out to both the Phillips and Clark families.

  • Jimmy Winn
I want to express my condolences to the Clark and Phillips families. Nothing I can say will comfort you at this time of extreme loss. All we can do is reach for the lords hand to help us through this very sad time. We will never forget the many great races Spencer Clark gave us at the Bullring. Like Chris Trickle, taken from us before his time, Spencer lives in our hearts in every race we run .... god speed my very fast young friend....JW

  • Tiffany Tapia
As a friend of Drew's for 15 years, I am so saddened by the suddend and tragic loss of these 2 young guys. I grew up with Drew and knew first hand what an amazing guy Drew was. He had the type of personalty that could light up a room the minute he entered it. His smile and laugh were contagious and it was hard not to be happy around him. Drew left a tremendous impact on all that he met. His heart was as big as he was tall. There is nothing that Drew wouldn't do for a friend. I find some comfort knowing that Drew was finally doing something that he truly enjoyed. There are many people that spend longer time on this earth, but there are few that will touch more while here. I will miss him tremendously and always carry him in my heart. My thoughts and prayers to the Clark and Phillips family.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to both families in this time of sorrow.

  • Michael Krueger
Andy was my first cousin. a couple of months ago he drove down to Austin from Arizona to see me and then drove to Ohio to see his brother Anthony Phillips. I hadn't seen him in a long time. We had a good visit. He had just been hired on with racing and was so exited to be doing something again that involved competition. He loved to compete in anything.... Many people new him as "Big Red." This was a nick name given to him by his football team mates and directly reflected his size and color of hair... Andy always stood out and had great character. He was a good man.I will miss him. Me and my Family and Andrew's immediately family appreciate the support from all of you.. Keep Andrew and Spencer in your hearts and prayers for the times to come. We will meet again in the winners circle at the end of life's race in celebration.

He looked forward to talking with you on the telephone which the two of you did almost daily. You always had some thing nice to say. To the Clark and Phillip's families I pray for God to comfort you in your time of sorrow. Please know that your sons were loved very much by the people whose lives they touched.

Clark Family: I tried to leave a message yesterday, but couldn't find the words between phone calls of the news. My son Justen was one of the last people to see Spencer before they departed Mooresville. He is flying in this evening to be with us and to be here for the funeral. It's a difficult time for everyone who knew Spencer. There are no words that I can say that will bring any level of comfort to your Family. But, I can say that answers can be found through Jesus Christ. Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not upon your own understanding. Life is short, but we all know that Spencer lived life to the fullest! Our Prayers are with your Family. Dow Woerner

  • Bob & Kathy Butcher - MROA GN West Chaplains
TJ, Debbie, Candice, Britteny, Andy's Family, and the Team, Our family's hearts go out to you in the deepest care, love and compassion for your great loss. We know the Lord's heart goes out to you even moreso despite the fact we understand so little. Sadly, we only are beginning to comprehend the devestating loss of our loved ones. Both so young and already "graduating" into eternal life in The Lord's presence may only be a witness to their character. Knowing Spencer only the far-to-brief time I have; only serves to know and trust in the Lord's love for him more. Both Kathy and I and my daughter and son-in-law that prayed with him and the team prior to races saw such a light and love of life shine from his eyes that we will always remember. We want to honor you as parents, sister, girlfriend, and team because those qualities reflect both your character and the huge impact on Spencer that you gave to him as a gift. With tears as I write on behalf of our family, we feel huge loss for we now lack the ability to develop even deeper relationship with Spencer and Andy through the years. Fortunately however, we know eternity also brings reunion and even closer relationship once again. We will all cherish that day! Please remember through these terribly difficult days and nights ahead we are only a phone call away 24-7. With compassionate Love & Hugs, Bob & Kathy Butcher Chad & Leeanne Brownell - and I know I can speak for all the other MRO Chaplains too.

  • Matt, Denise, Krystal, and Carrera Stassen

Now go stand beside a lion and run your fingers through his mane, find out what its like to ride a drop of rain, go walk with your granddaddy and match him step for step, and then hug his neck! I dont know...I love you...i miss you....good luck up there and one day when i see you again i think you owe me a sock in the face... Reece:There are memories in everyone's life when they wish that they had more moments to cherish with somebody. We had an understanding of each other from the beginning, and a respect was formed that became a bond. Friends that are devoted and true are hard to find in life, but the times that we spent with the girls, I would not trade for the world. Thanks for all of the laughs and the smiles that you brought to everyone. We all love you buddy, and always remember that you have a brother here for you that will watch over Britteny and take care of her. The two of us watching her together will keep her safe forever. Thank you for everything brother. My prayers are always with you. Make sure you give Earnhardt a run for his money! Miss you buddy!

To John Brown, thank you for sharing Andy with us. If you have a photo of your cousin, I would be honored to include it, so we may all remember him, too. I am still stunned. I am so sorry for you, your family, Debbie, TJ...everyone. It just doesn't seem real. I just cannot believe it.

So young, so young, special prayers sent to heaven for both families. Godspeed Spencer and Andrew.

  • John Brown
Most of you on this site knew Spencer well, or at least knew of him. I would like to share a few words about Andy. Andy is my cousin. Nicknamed "ulaulanui" (Hawaiian for "Big Red") by his college football teammates, Andy had just been with the Clark team for a short time, but made a huge impact (even though we never found a shirt to fit him!). After his NFL dreams were cut short by injury, he was excited about the prospects of a career in NASCAR. Andy was a gigantic human being, but his physical size was nothing compared to the size of his heart. Big Red, I'm glad I got to know you before you left. To the Clarks, I can only say that Andy was proud to have been "adopted" by your family, much as I have been over the past few years. In losing Spencer, I feel that I have lost 2 family members today. Thank you for making us a part of your lives; your family is in my prayers.

  • Candace Muzny & Del Dalrymple
Candice we want to share a story with you.. A couple of months ago Spencer was working on his BUSCH car and we were working on our Late Model and Spencer started telling us a story about one time when you two were racing together. Somebody kept bumping you and giving you a hard time on the race track and in his own word, “he took them out!” We believe just as he was protecting you then, he will always be protecting you and your parents now. My heart cries for you and your family right now and we will celebrate his life and remember him always has the true talent and rising star. Our prayers are with you and the family of Andrew Phillips. Sincerely Candace Muzny and Del Dalrymple

  • Joe Maylish
My favorite memory of Spencer was when he stopped by 600 Racing West on April 7th. He had just finished rebuilding his Legends Sedan. We spent about 30 minutes out front just talking about the car, and the improvements he made to it. He was really proud of it. We talked a little about his career and how things were going outside of racing. He stopped for a second and he took a photo of the # 23 on the side of his car, for the wallpaper on his cellphone. He went to the track and won that night. He also won in the last Legends race he competed in on April 15th. Spencer could flat out wheel, more importantly he was a good person. From 600 Racing our prayers go out to the entire Clark family during this difficult time.
