RESULTS FROM ORANGE SHOW SPEEDWAY JULY 23, 2005

The always exciting and very fast ASA PRO-4 Late Models were the feature event for the night’s races. 2004 season point runner-up and Bloomington resident Eddie Secord showed why he is usually the one to beat by jumping out to a commanding lead from the pole position for the first 20 laps of the 50 lap main event with Victorville resident Rex Lockwood in tow in second place, then on lap 21 Secord spun in turn one and Lockwood took over the lead until lap 45 when Highland’s Rob Kiemele assumed the top spot for the next three laps when Secord brought out the yellow flag once again by making contact with the leader Kiemele. Shawn Steele, Sun City, was the lucky driver on this incident when he took over the top spot and held on for his first ever ASA Pro- main event win at Orange Show Speedway. Yucaipa resident Tim Carruthers finished second and Kendall Scheidecker, Highland finished third. Secord was fast qualifier with a time of 13.594 and there were a total of nine caution flags with four lead changes in the 50-lap feature event.

Also on tap Saturday and making their first appearances ever at OSS were the Grand American Modified cars that normally raced at the now closed Cajon Speedway. Thirteen of the open wheel 600 horsepower machines check in for qualifying with Dean Kuhn from Oceanside clocking in the quickest time at 13.78. The invert the 35 lap main event was four so that put Doug Carpenter, La Mesa on the pole with Jimmy Dickerson sitting on the outside front row. Carpenter would lead the first lap with Dickerson taking over the lead until lap 6 when Kuhn plowed to the front to take over the lead for the next 30 laps and the eventual win in this historic race. Dickerson followed in second, Carpenter finished third and Mike Salm, Fallbrook and ASA Super Late Model competitor Jeff Thompson, Lakeside rounded out the top five. This division will race again on August 20, 2005.

ASA Stock Ponies were also in the pits on Saturday with Jim Edminston, Highland timing in at 14.84 for quick time of the night. Although Edminston was quick time it was Jim Mardis, Sacramento was the car to beat during the 35 lap main event. Mardis was the overwhelming victor Saturday night when he lapped every car up to fourth place to claim his third main event wins this season. Edminston finished second with Jered King, Victorville in third and Matt Goodwin, Wildomar in fourth. Jim Gebhart finished fifth a lap down from the leaders. Eighteen cars check in the pits and there were a total of seen yellow flags and only one lead change.

The ASA Sport Trucks were also on the race card July 23rd with Eduardo Garcia completing a sweep of the division by claiming fast time at 16.63, wining his heat race and winning the 30 lap main event. Garcia lead all but the first four laps of the feature and was never challenge at anytime throughout the event. Jim Edminston, Highland finished second, Karl Roth, Chino finished third, John Reid, Perris was fourth and rounding out the top five was Jim Belter, Corona. Twelve trucks check in and a total of eight yellow flags were shown and two lead changes were recorded.

INEX Legend Cars were on hand with Tom Landreth, Fontana clocking in fast time with 14.98 lap. Matthew Hicks was victorious in the trophy dash and was also the Main event winner on this night that saw fourteen cars check in. Hicks was the overwhelming winner and lead the final twenty-five laps for the victory. Landreth finished second with Chad Schug in third, Bill Bonney fourth, and Steve Werner rounding out the top five.

Five Bandoleros check in for competition Saturday night with Donnie St. Ours claiming fast time at 15.48. Brent Scheidemantle claimed the win in the 20-lap feature event with Josh Madrid a close second and Jonathon St. Ours in third.

Orange Show Speedway will be dark on July both but will return on August 6th with the ASA Super Late Models, ASA Late Models, Sport Compacts, Legend Cars and Bandoleros. Spectator gates open at 5:00 pm and racing action gets underway at 6:30 pm. Admission will be $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for seniors & military, $2.00 for juniors 6 to 12 and children under 5 are FREE.

Orange Show Speedway is conveniently located on the NOS Events Center, home of the National Orange Show Festival in San Bernardino, California. Take the 215 freeway, exit at the Orange Show Road and go north on E Street approximately one half mile to Mill Street.
