ERIC HARDIN IN THE NO. 5 DIRECT SHOPPING NETWORK RACING CHEVROLET FIGHTS FOR A FINISH

PHOENIX, Arizona – Eric Hardin went for a wild ride in the No. 5 Direct Shopping Network Racing Chevrolet this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway for the NASCAR Camping World Series race.

Hardin, who qualified 22nd quickly moved his way up to battle for eight position when the No. 70 of Greg Pursley collided with the No. 10 of Jim Warn sending their cars into the wall between turn one and two. Hardin had no where to go except up up and away, which is exactly what happened. The No. 5 Direct Shopping Network Racing Chevrolet was catapulted into the air during the collision and in true Monster Jam fashion, drove over the roofs and hoods of the other cars, landing with a twisted pile once known as a race car.

“I just remembered seeing nothing but sky and thought to myself, this can’t be good,” Hardin said. “Next thing I know, I’m driving on top of roofs and hoods.”

Hardin was running comparable lap times to the leader and was closing the gap quickly. Pit strategies were a big part of getting Hardin in the top three for the night.

Crew Chief Justin Holechek put Hardin in a good position with fuel at lap 60 and fresh tires at lap 105 to get Hardin out in front while other teams were making late pit stops for fuel.

“I knew that if we could just pace ourselves and not get too ahead of ourselves then we would be on the race track while other teams would need to take more fuel and tires,” Holechek said. “The hardest part is gambling on fuel. We knew we could make it to the end but there was no room for error.”

This was the second of three confirmed races to compete in for Direct Shopping Network Racing as budgets are tight and every penny is pinched for this season.

Direct Shopping Network Racing will head to Kyle, TX this weekend for the “Allstate Texas Thunder 150” at Thunder Hill Raceway.
