HOLMES AND THE NO. 20 NAPA TOYOTA TEAM’S ROCKY FINISH AT MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK IN NASCAR CAMPING WORLD WEST SERIES RACE

ANTELOPE, California – The Goodyear tires were well worn during the final laps of the NASCAR Camping World Series West race at Miller Motorsports Park. Eric Holmes and the No. 20 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota team knew that taking care of the tires would be important while racing at the 3.048-mile road course in Tooele, Utah. The racers kicked up rocks onto the track as traffic wound through the corners dubbed “First Attitude, Second Attitude” and the third called the “Bad Attitude”, making it difficult to avoid the eventual flat tire which contributed to the sixteenth place finish for Holmes.

The No. 20 NAPA team from Bill McAnally Racing with driver Eric Holmes came to the road course event just outside Salt Lake City with an 81 point lead in the series championship points standing and leaves with a 57 point lead with three race events left. Holmes started in third with a time of 1:57.038 and a best speed of 94.123 mph. His time was more than a second faster than last year’s record.

The race got off to a great start when at lap four; Holmes began having trouble shifting the No. 20 NAPA Toyota Camry. He pulled the car into the pit stall and the team went to work fixing the problem. While in the pits, crew chief Ty Joiner made the call to top off with fuel. As the team was servicing the Toyota Camry, the car rolled over the line that separates the pit stalls causing to NASCAR to call a penalty. Holmes came in the following lap and served the 1 lap penalty. Never giving into adversity, Holmes raced his way back thru the field and by lap 28; the No. 20 NAPA Toyota was back on the lead lap. Holmes continued to make his way thru the pack of 28 cars and was sixth in the running order when during the green-white-checkered finish; the No. 20 suffered a flat tire. Holmes was able to navigate the car to the start-finish line and take the checkered flag.

The eleventh race of the 2008 West Series race will be at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on August 16th. The race will be presented on SPEED Channel later in the month. Check your local listings for times and dates.
