WHAT A NIGHT AT UKIAH SPEEDWAYUKIAH SPEEDWAY
Source: Amanda Pardini
![]() Saturday night at Ukiah Speedway brought quite an excitement of Family Entertainment. Scheduled to appear this evening was Bandoleros, Bonus Bombers, Modified and Bombers. Events added to the night?s excitement were Sliders and Boat Races.
The scheduled of events Started with the Trophy Dash then went to the Heat Races normally would end with the Main Events. However, this Saturday night continued with two slider races and ended with a splash from the Boat Races. The order of division went Bandolero?s, Bonus Bomber?s, Modified?s and Bomber?s.
The night's events were intense with neck to neck racing and very few wrecks, but lots of spinouts. This was a clean night of racing except for the main even in the bomber division. A little upset attitude due to officials starting back up a race and not giving time to fix their car and get back on the track. Guess what, that is racing and why we have officials.
Do you realize the job the official have to do? I would have to guess not or else rules would not be broken and officials would not have to give out fines. Officials get angry drivers and pit crews in their face every Saturday night. They volunteered their free time for something they love and have a passion for and get rude people in their faces. They have the right to make the call they see fit. So, guess what, just accept it and move on. This is family entertainment for Saturday night. When I say family I mean family. Children on up to adults put their talents and skills to action for fun and race. There is a lot of family history at Ukiah Speedway. If you are ever looking for something to do on a Saturday night you should come on down and join us at Ukiah Speedway. They will show you good clean family entertainment. Children love hearing their names called as the trophy presenter. They also receive a little trophy themselves. The trophy dash winners get to present the trophy to the winner whose name was drawn. The Bandoleros are young adults wanting to put their skills to the test. Some you can say trying to show dad up, others you can say following in dads footsteps. Some you can say is just a place to start. Whichever the case maybe they put on a really good show. When these cars race it sounds like the legend cars. There were a few contacts during the main event Saturday night, but nothing serious.
The Bombers and are such the popular division to watch. A driver and a rider go around the track to get to the checkered flag, however, can you make it without getting spun out? This division has been around for a while. Now the question is if you wreck who will get out first the driver or the rider and have a fit? Saturday night we had a few spin outs and a flat tire. For the over all how it was good clean racing.
The Modifieds are a fast division to watch. How fast can they make it around the track, well don?t blink or you will miss them? This division is popular for the speed and box style car that is raced. We have a young driver in this division who is tearing up the track with is modified. Will he take after his father? I think he will exceed to the limit. Come on out and see for yourself.
The Bonus Bombers is a division I had to ask what the difference was. It was explained to me as a faster Bomber. It is a bomber just with the popular demand on the bomber division they had to give others a change to show their talent even if they are slower than others. The Bombers has always been very popular division and has given Ukiah Speedway a great turn out for drivers and fans.
Clear the track for this main event for Saturday night's entertainment. For those of you who did not make it to see the final nights entertainment, you really missed out. The sliders were all over the watered down track. The stands were on their feet watching to see who could control their card with no back tires, All they had was a triangle frame around the axle. The first group was under 14 years of age and there was about 6 that participated. They were tearing up the track with their skills and ability to get around the track, get stuck in the mud, and hit the other cars while getting wet from the water hose. This is an event I have never seen before, but it sure is one I would like to see again. You could see the entertainment from the stands and the participants. The audience was the one who made the final decision on who won.
Next we had the over 14 years of age drivers. This age group gave 18 cars to the track for some sliding entertainment. This even kept the crowd on their feet watching to see who would run in to the wall and not even aim for the wall. As the cars go around the track with no rear tires and very little control who will be the crowds favorite? The car that wrecked into others or lost control and spun was the crowd favorite.
The boat races gave on quite a show for the crowd Saturday night. They started at the flag stand and went to the pit entrance. (Half the track.) If you were not able to go you will have to try and picture a quarter mile track with nothing but a vehicle and a boat chained to it running on a watered down track. The object is to get around the track as fast as you can and with as much of your boat left as you can. This event had the crowd on their feet with excitement and curiosity of the race. The crowd again was going to pick the winner. You could hear the laughter and excitement from this event. The best part was watching the drivers out having fun tearing up boats and cars.
To those of you reading this article if you are looking for something to do on a Saturday night come on down to Ukiah Speed way. The drivers, riders, crews, officials, and concession stand assistance will make it worth your time. If you don?t know anything about racing don?t worry you will learn quickly. You may even get pulled into the excitement of driving.
We will be off this next weekend due to the fair, but we will return with more hair rising, get you off your seat racing.
Stayed tuned for interviews from racers, fans and those who are behind the scenes of Ukiah Speedway. Racing will resume on August 16, with those who made it thru the boat race and sliders will compete for the best turnover event. Come on out and see who can crash their car and win.
