GRAYS HARBOR RACEWAY RACING THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

The Saturday Night at Grays Harbor Raceway located at the fairgrounds in Elma it’s the second and final race for the I-5 Late Models in the Mountain Dew/AMP Energy 50, it will also be round two of the Cut Rate Hobby Stock Challenge Series. This will be the final race of the series to be held at Grays Harbor Raceway, and should see the best Hobby Stock/Street Stock drivers in the Northwest battle for 50 laps in the $1000.00 to win event. There will be a $1200 points fund for the top 5 drivers that compete in both events, with $500 of that going to the overall point champion.

The I-5 Late Models will return to Grays Harbor Raceway for the second time this year after putting on an excellent show in June. Over 30 cars were on hand for the first event at GHR, so we can expect at least the same number of cars if not more, as the best dirt Late Model drivers in the Northwest will battle on the fast 3/8’s high banked clay oval. Rob Mayea from Bend, Oregon is the current points with 144 points, Mayea was the feature winner at Grays Harbor in June. Close behind will be three time I-5 Champion and defending Champion Trevor Glasser from Tangent, Oregon. Other drivers expected to vie for the top spot include former I-5 Champions, Bob Boyd from Albany, Oregon, and Russ Sell from Brownsville, Oregon.

The Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby Stock Challenge Series will see local drivers including newly crowned 2008 Champion and current Series points leader Zack Simpson from Hoquim, Simpson leads the two race series with 164 points, two more than fellow Aberdeen driver Jack Parshall Jr. at 162. Puyallup’s Paul Short on the strength of a second place finish sits in the third spot with 154 points, followed by Astoria’s Chris Graff with 152. Elma’s own Chaz Wilder is tied for fifth with Banks’s driver Rick Rehanek with 144 points

The 2008 Grays Harbor Raceway season wraps up on September 19th and 20th for the 2nd Annual Fred Brownfield Memorial ASCS Northwest Region winged 360 Sprint Car event, that will pay $10,092 to winner, the biggest paying 360 show in the Northwest.
