Source: CNS Media/gb
![]() The last time Forest Smith was in Victory Circle was back in 2006 when he drove Wayne Muhler’s ride to the win after Smith has a mechanical failure. Smith changed that Saturday night as he cruised to the SUNOCO Grand American Modified win during the United Power/Touchstone Energy night at the races. Darren Crocker held off Roger Avants to win the ableplanet Late Model feature. Ric Lothert took the Doc Popcorn Super Stock win after Emett Grazier was penalized four positions for a minor tech infraction. Chris Eggleston took the win in the RMLRA Legend Car feature after a wild ending and Jay Sant took the 600 Mini Sprint win. To end the night, Turbo Train chugged to the Witthar Racing Train race win. The first cars to hit the track for their main event were the 600 Mini Sprints for their final appearance of the season. The red flag came out quickly as Todd Weland went for a wild ride after contact. Stan Allen, but that would only last 3 laps as Jay Sant took the lead on lap 4. By lap 5, Sant led Brandon Steele, Allen, Nick Burton, and Paul Babich. Burton was up to second on lap 8, but by then Sant was long gone. Babich moved up to third on lap 12 and Burton tried everything he could to catch Sant. Sant took the commanding lead and scored this third CNS win of the season over Burton, Babich, Allen and Steele. Jace Hansen jumped to the early lead in the Legend feature over Chris Eggleston, Corey Seip, Kyle Clegg and Jon Krizman. Eggleston took the lead on lap 4, and Clegg along with Krizman got by Seip on lap 5. Darrell Stewart was fifth on lap 7, and Eggleston and Hansen had a great battle for the top spot. Jennifer Johnson spun for a lap 16 caution and Clegg got by Hansen on lap 18. Hansen got by Clegg on lap 22, but Clegg shot back by Hansen on lap 24. As the field was coming for the checkered, cars tangled in turn 4 for a caution, then Hansen and Krizman got together. Eggleston was sent to the pits for leaking fluid, however since the field had taken the white flag, Eggleston was determined the winner. Eggleston returned to the track to take his hardware and the win over Clegg, Hansen, Krizman and Stewart. Emett Grazier took off in the Doc Popcorn Super Stock feature and led early over Bob Foster, Joel Sidell, Matt Burton and Ric Lothert. Lothert got by Burton on lap 4 for the fourth position and Lothert was third on lap 11. Grazier and Foster had a great battle for the lead when Darrell Smith blew up for a lap 13 caution laying oil down in turn 3. Keenan Riddell slid into the oil and slid into the turn 3 wall. Riddell continued after a quick pit stop. A couple more cautions for spun cars occurred then on lap 16, Sean Chapel and Gerry Gardner tangled. Burton got by Sidell on lap 17and Burton took third on lap 20. Jeff Sluss did an amazing save in turn 1 on lap 21 and Emilio Abeyta spun for a lap 22 caution. Dennis Edwards took over fifth and Mike Cox’s tire came loose for a lap 24 caution. Grazier held off Lothert for the win, but was penalized four (4) positions in tech inspection for a minor infraction. Lothert was awarded the win over Burton, Foster, Edwards and Grazier. Forest Smith jumped out to the early lead in the SUNOCO Grand American Modified feature with Justin Case, Jeff Hansen, Jace Hansen and Ed Vecchiarelli Jr following. Je. Hansen was second on lap 3 and Vecchiarelli Jr was fourth on lap 6. Kenton Gross had an amazing save in front of Smith on lap 9, Smith was able to get by Gross and maintain his head. The only caution came on lap 13 when Shawn Trackwell spun. Smith took off on the restart with Je. Hansen trying to get by Smith, but it was all Smith. A very happy Smith took the win over Je. Hansen, Case, Vecchiarelli Jr, and Ja. Hansen. This was Smith's first career win in his own car at Colorado National Speedway! Joe James Jr broke scrubbing in his tires to begin the ableplanet Late Model feature. Darren Crocker jumped out to the early lead with Nick Rozack, Chris Atkinson, Rick Smith and Tyler Chrisinger in hot pursuit. Rozack spun and other cars collided to miss Rozack on lap 2, and Rozack was moved back up to his position. Roger Avants took over fifth on lap 7 and both Smith and Avants got by Atkinson on lap 8. Bruce Yackey got by Atkinson for fifth on lap 12 and Avants rocketed into second on lap 13. Crocker had a nice lead at the half-way mark over Avants, Smith, Rozack and Yackey. Mike Bowen broke for a lap 22 caution to bunch up the field. Crocker held off Avants for the win with Smith, Rozack and Yackey following. Turbo Train claimed the train race over Two Two Train.
