POSITION ONE MOTORSPORTS TOPS SEASON WITH TWIN TOP-TEN FINISHES

BALDWIN PARK, California — The last few months have been a roller coaster ride for the Position One Motorsports team. Beginning in April of this year when Luis Martinez Jr first turned a wheel in a Super Late Model car to now, the road has been filled with challenges and obstacles but it's been with fierce determination and the unquestionable commitment of this youngster and his crew that have sustained and even propelled him to the end of the 2008 NASCAR ACDelco Super Late Model Series season. After rebounding from a terrible weekend 4 weeks ago Martinez arrived at the track this weekend looking to finish off his rookie year in strong fashion. With the format of this weekend's event being changed to include two 25-lap races, Martinez would have two opportunities to do just that.

Qualifying: The qualifying session for this weekend's event would go down as the best session to date. Being the twelfth driver to enter the track out of twenty-seven, Martinez knew his time would have to be spectacular in order to get a decent starting spot. Martinez gave just that: two spectacular qualifying laps. The # 03 KING TACO machine entered the qualifying time sheets in fourth. By the time all twenty-seven drivers posted their times Martinez sat in the tenth spot. This was Martinez' best qualifying effort this season.

Race 1:

Lining up outside of row #5 Martinez began his race in aggressive form. By the end of Lap #2 he was battling for the ninth position. The feedback from Martinez to the crew indicated the car was to his liking and as he curved around the ½ mile track the car seemed to respond to Martinez's input very well. As the first race was coming to a close Martinez had caught up to # 05 Travis Thrikettle but it was too late and Martinez's finishing position was solidified in tenth.

Race 2:

After a successful Race #1, Martinez and team regrouped for what was the last race of the season. With hopes of finishing on a positive note the team gave the car an extra inspection and sent Martinez off. With the drop of the green flag Martinez once again began his charge from tenth towards the front and immediately began racing side by side with Thirkettle. By Lap # 15 the gap between Martinez and the eleventh place car of #15 Chazz Anderson was sizable and increasing. With Thirkettle in front by a ways and Anderson behind, Martinez settled into a fast pace and chugged towards the front. As the Checkered flag waved Martinez's once again finished in the tenth spot

Randel King, Position One Motorsports' other driver had a challenging weekend as his first race effort resulted in a twentieth place finish while his second race he ended up in the seventeenth spot.

Luis Martinez Jr – Driver: “This was a great year of learning for me and the team. They did a great job at getting the car out on track every weekend, and for that, I can't thank them enough. Its too bad that we couldn't get the rookie of the year, but that's racing. All we can do now is wait for off-season testing and come back strong next year. I really want to extend my thanks to our sponsors King Taco and Molecule. Without their support none of this would have happened so I am very grateful”

Larry Nava – Crew Chief: “I'm real proud of Luis and the whole Position One team. Capping off the season with 2 top-ten finishes makes a real statement on the progress the team made throughout this season. The month of August was pretty rough on us but the team just kept moving forward, never looking back. I think Luis Jr did a great job adapting to racing on ovals. It was a big change for him coming from open wheel road racing”

Luis Martinez – Owner: “It was a good night for the whole team. We had our best qualifying and two top tens! Not a bad way to finish off the season, especially with our sponsors present.

The team has worked very hard the past couple weeks to get the car in good form. Special thanks to everyone who helped make our transition from open-wheel to stock car racing a very rewarding one, from all the staff at Toyota Speedway, sponsors, our team and especially Luis Jr ”
