TWO NEW TRACK RECORDS SET AT I-10 SPEEDWAYI-10 SPEEDWAY

During the practice laps, Shawn Steel (25), of Corona CA, was spun by another car and sent squarely into the wall in turn 2. Paramedics transported Shawn to Palo Verde Hospital where an MRI ruled out any serious injuries. Shawn was discharged from the hospital and returned to the track later in the afternoon. Jason Patison, driving the Lucas Oil Late Model car, set a new track record at 14.877 seconds. Eric Spring also set a track record for the Pony Stock division at 15.780.
Quick Times
The top three quick times in the PONY STOCK division were Eric Spring (60) at 15.780, Mark Shackleford (09) at 15.983, and Jim Edmiston (90) at 16.498. The top three quick times in the Towel City Tire / Sunoco Fuel PURE STOCKS were Jimmy Rouse (09) at 16.943, Robert Davis (3) at 16.998, and Rick Layman (52) at 17.032. The top three quick times in the Lucas Oil LATE MODEL division were Jason Patison (10) at 14.877, John-Clay Scott (81) at 15.127, and Mark Schriner (82) at 15.195. The top three quick times in the Budweiser MODIFIEDS division were Larry Gerchman (25) at 15.045, Steve Almquist (50) 15.223, and Jerry Snell (9) at 15.326.
Main Events
The Pony Stock division fielded six cars for the 25-lap main event with Shawn Deitch (9) on the pole and Shanda Davis (92) to his right. Curtis Larson (7) and Jim Edmiston (90) were set up in the second row. At the green flag, Davis pulled out into the lead but spun out before the first lap was complete, resulting in a restart. Davis took her car into the pits and wasn’t in the lineup for the restart. At the restart, Eric Spring (60) raced into the lead with Edmiston and Mark Shackleford (09) following in second and third. In the early laps Spring created a little separation from the other cars while Shackleford challenged and finally passed Edmiston. At lap 5, Spring was still the leader with Shackleford following close behind. Shackleford would continue to challenge Spring throughout the duration of the race. Davis came back onto the track on lap 16 but immediately pulled back into the pits. At the checkered flag, Spring held onto the lead position with Shackleford right behind him in second. The other finishers were Edmiston and Deitch in third and fourth respectively. Eleven cars started in the Lucas Oil Late Model 35-lap main event. Billy Johanneck (22) started on the pole position with Mark Shriner (82) to his right. John-Clay Scott (81) and Jason Patison (10) were behind them in the second row. At the green flag, Richard Kerr (56) spun out, forcing a restart. At the restart, Johanneck pulled out into the lead with Schriner and Scott following in second and third. Within the first lap, Patison was able to get by Scott to take over the third spot. Patison touched another car in turn four and lost his right-front fender. A yellow flag came out in order to remove the debris from the track. On the restart, Schriner passed Patison to retake third position. At lap 4, it was Johanneck, Scott, Schriner, and Patison. Jimmy Rouse (09), sent Kerr into a spin in front of the grand stands--Bobby Keirns (86) also lost control and Chris Gallegos (6) ran into Keirns. Keirns car received considerable damage and was finished. Gallegos drove his car into the pits and did not return. It was Johanneck, Scott, Schriner, and Patison at the restart. Patison got past Schriner again to take third place. A little further back, Richard Hooper (16) was challenging Glen Burke (96) for fifth position with Burke holding. At lap 15, Patison started challenging Scott for second place with Scott holding. At lap 19, Rouse came under Kerr and sent him into a spin. Rouse received a black flag and was sent to the pits. At the restart, Johanneck pulled out into the lead followed by Scott and Schriner. On lap 24, Patison spun out between turns 3 and 4 and ended up in the infield. A yellow flag came out and Patison’s car was eventually towed into the pits. At the restart, it was Johanneck, Scott, Schriner, and Hooper. For several laps, Hooper mounted a challenge for third place but was unable to get by Schriner. Johanneck was able to hold onto his lead and receive the checkered flag. He was followed by Scott, Schriner, and Hooper. Seven cars started in the Budweiser Modifieds 35-lap main event. David Gerchman (52) started on pole position with Randy Forbis (46) to his right. Chris Weiss (94) and Jerry Snell (9) were in the number three and four starting positions. At the green flag, Forbis pulled out in front with Snell and Weiss following. On lap 2 Larry Gerchman (25) passed Weiss to take third place. At lap 5 it was Forbis, Snell, and then Larry Gerchman. At lap 10, Snell challenged Forbis, who was still the leader. When Forbis slid up a little high on the track, both Snell and Larry Gerchman got by him. It was now Snell, Larry Gerchman, and then Frobis. On lap 12, Larry Gerchman got by Snell on turn 4 and took the lead position. It was now Larry Gerchman, Snell, Forbis, and Steve Almquist (50). On lap 15 Almquist passed Forbis to take third position. Larry Gerchman began to create a comfortable lead. Almquist moved up into third position. It was now Larry Gerchman, Snell, Almquist, Forbis, and Weiss. On lap 30, Weiss was able to take Forbis to move up into fourth position. The cars crossed the finish line with Larry Gerchman holding first place followed by Snell, Almquist, Weiss, and Forbis. The Towel City Tire / Sunoco Fuel Pure Stocks fielded sixteen cars. Dusty Hope (33) was on the pole position with Billy Dillard (7) to his right. Justin Good (25) and Brian Faulkner (2) started in the second row. At the green flag, Dillard pulled out front with Hope, Good, and Faulkner following 2x2. As the cars started lap 2, a collision took place in front of the grand stands that involved Good, Blake Usilton (18), John Mattie (16), and Hope. At the restart, Dillard pulled into the lead with Faulkner, Jacob Forbis (46), Robert Davis (3), and George Olmsted (79) following. On lap 3, Rick Layman (52) went sideways into Jimmy Rouse (09) with both spinning out. Both cars were sent to the rear for the restart. At the restart, it was again Dillard, Faulkner, Forbis, Davis, and Olmsted. On lap 5, Faulkner took the lead from Dillard. At lap 10 it was Faulkner in the lead with Davis, Forbis, Dillard, and Olmsted following. Starting at lap 13, Jimmy Rouse (09) began to move up in the pack. He passed Good, Mattie, and Dillard in short succession. Rouse then passed Olmsted to move into fourth place. At lap 15, Davis was the leader with Faulkner, Forbis, Rouse, and Olmsted following. Hope spun into the infield but was able to get back onto the track before the yellow flag came out. On lap 16, Johnny del Pino (13) and Layman tangled and spun out together in turn 3. A yellow came out, sending both cars to the rear for a restart. At the restart it was still Davis, Faulkner, Forbis, Rouse, and Olmsted. Davis began to develop a comfortable lead over the other cars. On the 20th lap, Rouse passed Forbis to take third place and then began to challenge Faulkner for second. With only a couple of laps left, Faulkner spun out on turn 4, which brought out a yellow flag and sent Faulkner to the rear. This moved Rouse up to second place. At the restart, Davis was able to hold onto the lead position and received the checkered flag for a win. He was followed by Rouse, Forbis, Olmsted, and Layman.
