ARCE FLIES TO SECOND STRAIGHT LATE MODEL WIN AT ORANGE SHOWSAN BERNARDINO, California -- The way things are going for Dave Arce, the key to winning at Orange Show Speedway isn’t suspension, it’s aerodynamics.

Saturday night (May 26), for the second race in a row, Arce’s Pontiac Grand Prix got airborne and rolled over another car, and for the second race in a row the BSR West Late Model driver from Santee wound up in victory lane.

Two weeks ago, Arce had gotten airborne and driven over the hood of Richard Hooper’s car during a mid-race accident, then taken the checkered flag for his first main event win since July 16, 2005.

This time, with a crowd of 5,126 looking on for an event entitled “A Race to Remember – Honoring Our Heroes,” Arce sailed onto the top of Anthony Mainella’s Chevrolet when both tried to slow down on the front straightaway because of a yellow flag in Turn 1 on lap 18 of the 30-lap feature.

The incident cost Mainella several trips to the pits to remove loose bodywork and relegated him to a 13th place finish. Arce, 47, somehow avoided major damage and was left with a lead he held for the final 12 laps around the quarter-mile paved oval.

Dan DiGiammarino of San Bernardino pressured over those final laps, but never got in position to attempt a pass and finished second. Third was Justin DeJaynes of Lancaster, whose car had been damaged extensively in the mid-race collision May 12.

Tom Smith of Lakewood continued his perfect season in the Lucas Oil Outlaw Figure 8 division, winning for the sixth time in as many races after setting fast time in qualifying and also capturing a heat race.

Bree Brewer, 17, a Riverside Norte Vista High student, won her second in a row in the Leno’s Rico Taco Legends Cars series, taking the lead 10 laps into the 30-lap affair and winning comfortably over Ryan O’Connor of Vista. Brewer’s win coupled with the fifth place finish of class leader Darren Amidon left them separated by just two points after five of their 14 races.

The Late Model and Figure 8 mains left many cars badly damaged so, fittingly, the evening ended with a six-car Demolition Derby that was won by Dan Pachella of Long Beach.
