NEWS FROM THE NASCAR EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY

This weekend the NASCAR Whelen All American Series restarts after a well-deserved Memorial Day weekend off. The track stayed busy with its nationally recognized Demolition Derby/Fireworks extravaganza that included Monster Trucks! A special gate opening time has been arranged this Saturday to accommodate the Speedway Chevrolet Super Stocks so that they might have additional practice time. The former tour gate will be used for Super Stocks only and will open at high noon. Practice will begin at 12:30 and will continue for two hours. Between 2:00 and 2:30 the "regular" back gate will open for all other competitors. The practice schedule for the balance of the afternoon will be posted at the speedways website on Thursday.

John Zaretzke enjoys a nice point lead in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series after winning three in a row. With four victories under his belt in the first seven starts he is already ranked 89th in the entire nation! Darin Stordahl and Naima Lang separated by just two points lurk in second and third place respectively in the Championship battle as Defending Champion Shane Harding still hungers for his first victory of 2007.

The Les Schwab Tires Bombers are back at it with fender rubbing, short track racing on Evergreen's tough 3/8's oval. Former Champion Travis Blackwood leads Jill Lang and Steve Ptacek who are tied for second by just 10 points. Just just 2 points separate Darrel Lutovsky, Jim Foti and Craig Rowalt in third through sixth. Points have never been closer and the heat races never more intense.

Mini Stocks bring their resurgent class back and Mark Weedin looks to win one against the growing competition and his nemesis Chuck Richard. Chuck has one win and Mark has two and each have raced through large fields to earn their victories.

Super Figure Eights and Stinger Eights will once again tear through the busiest intersection in the state. This seasons racing on Evergreens figure eight has been the best in years. After FEAR (figure eight auto racing) took the Stinger Eights at the end of last season and combined the Extremes and Supers it has worked out to be the strongest fields of cars in many years. The sensational run by Rookie candidate and current points leader Sean Peters has many acknowledging his talent. Last seasons Extreme Contact Champion Josh Beckel has taken over the Championship battle in the wildly entertaining Stinger Eights and leads former champion and eight time FEAR President Ben "The Wizard" Chandler.

Crash Cars! return as the class grows so will the excitement. It's bound to be more fun than possible for the price of the ticket so do not miss this weekends events at the speedway. Front Gates open at 3:30 with racing action at 7:00pm. Located on the fairgrounds in Monroe, evergreenspeedway.com####
