RACINGWEST.COM DRIVER INTERVIEW
Source: RacingWest.com / Janet Peery
Date: 07/31/2007
Justin Lofton, who competes in the NASCAR Grand National West Series, is one of the most likely next first-time winners. He has proven he can run up front with the best of them and
at the road courses he has excelled beyond some of the best of them. It is only a matter of time until we see
him in Victory Lane, could be Washington this weekend...or it could be at the
road course at California Speedway. It will be a surprise where he wins, but
not a surprise that he wins.
He is a very popular driver...especially there at Irwindale Speedway where lots of the media were saying good things about him. Lofton has a very big future ahead of him...advice to fans? Enjoy him while we have him here!
And now on to the questions and answer with one of the brightest stars in the
NASCAR Grand National West Series.
Crew Chief: Rob Dixon
Car Owner: Lofton Racing
RacingWest: You are currently eighth in the standings, but
as far as your performance this year you have been racing like a top-three driver.running
up front.and coming close to winning a pole and a race. Are you doing something
different this year or is experience paying off? .
Justin Lofton: We are much more prepared than we were last
year. We've learned a lot, we started from scratch last year and were not as
prepared as we thought we were. Me, personally, I am much more prepared. I have
a regular workout schedule; I know what it takes to run with the front guys
from the experience I got last year.
RW: Are you using the NASCAR West Series to have fun, improve
your career or a little of both? If you are using it as a career builder what
do you hope to do after the west and what would make that happen?
JL I am using the West Series to build a career, I hope to
eventually end up in the Cup Series, but I still have a lot of learning to do.
I am hoping to do at least 6 Busch races next year and maybe a few Truck races.
Making it happen would be race experience and wins, I am getting the experience
but unfortunately we haven't been able to get the wins just yet.
RW: Like a lot of teams, your family helps pay for a lot of
the expense of racing. Some of the teams that pay their own expenses feel the
travel is too costly, others welcome the travel. Where do you fit in and what
are your thoughts on the travel?
JL: Personally we don't have a problem with the traveling as
long as it is to a track like Iowa or Phoenix, tracks that will help build my
career. When we go to smaller tracks, like Elko or Roseburg, where we just beat
cars up we would rather not go.
RW: Did you spend less money or more money on racing the
West Series this year.and what was the reason for the savings or extra expense.
JL: We have had some extra expenses this year. We bought a
couple more chassis for next year and extra engines and transmissions.
RW: Of the tracks you competed on so far.which one did you
most enjoy?
JL: Iowa was a great track. Altamont is always fun to go to
and the same with Washington.
RW: If you needed to borrow a part which team would you go
to first?
JL: Probably start at the 8, the 2 and 44 respectively.
RW: When you are not racing or working on your car, how do
you enjoy spending your time off?
JL: I have been spending time at the beach this summer, but
just staying active.
RW: Which member of your team is most likely to play a practical
joke?
JL: Probably me. Blaine, our fabricator, always asks me to
get him a winning Lottery ticket when I go run errands, so I went in a Magic
store and bought him a prank ticket. He didn't find it all that funny.
RW: When you are up front leading.which car would be the
last one you would want to see in your rear view mirror?
JL: I think we all know the answer to that one.
RW: Since Evergreen Speedway is the next stop on the West
Series schedule.could you tell us what you enjoy the most about the track? Any
hints for good places to stay, eat or things to do when not at the track?
JL: There is an Outback somewhere around there. I think we
are staying at The Guesthouse Inn & Suites, I hope that it's a good place
to stay. I enjoy racing Monroe because it is rough and fast I am looking forward
to running 300 laps.
RW: Thank you very much for taking the time to answer the questions.
Best of luck to you in Monroe.
