About the Kern Schools Federal Credit Union High School Racing Series:

Founded in 1997, the High School Racing Series began at Mesa Marin Raceway as the only racing program in the U.S. for High School students. High schools from throughout Kern County compete for the coveted championship trophy.

The Program:

Students under the direction of adult advisors build an entry level racecar and raise funds from community sponsorships for their school’s race-team. During the summer months teams compete for the high school racing series annual championship with graduating seniors driving, supported by an all student pit crew. Student teams must comply with the same rules, regulations and code of conduct as professional drivers. A NASCAR membership and insurance is required for all competitors. To be eligible to compete, students must maintain a minimum grade point average and project participation hours are determined by each school.

The Cars:

Racecars are built based on NASCAR Street Stock rules. Cars are painted to match school colors and must be built and maintained by high school team members.

The Benefit:

Students have benefited from the High School Racing Series in many ways over the past 10 years. Many students have found their ‘hot button’ of interest in high school, which in turn gives them the drive to get better grades, more consistent attendance and learn skills that propel them towards being successful adults.

The Series:

Beginning with the 2008 racing season, Kern Schools Federal Credit Union, will be on board as the series title sponsor. The Kern Schools Federal Credit Union High School Racing Series will invite high schools from throughout Kern County and other surrounding communities to compete in the 10-12 event race series.
