Track Construction:

Construction progress of the new half-mile raceway in Bakersfield currently known as “Kern County’s New Home to NASCAR” continues to meet the planned 2008 opening.

The Turn 1 vehicle and pedestrian tunnel is now complete as well as the back filling and compaction over the tunnel. All crash wall construction is finished and pavement on the track surface is planned for November 5th. American Engineering and Asphalt has been awarded the contract for the track surface paving, with paving consultant Bob Harrington overseeing the process. Harrington has 40 years experience in paving auto raceways, including work for Roger Penske and International Speedway Corporation.

Competition:

The 2008 schedule of events is taking shape and the competition rules are complete.

“As far as our schedule for 2008, we have a good handle on the dates for our Late Model Series with support divisions and the SRL Late Model Touring Series events.” stated track president, Larry Collins.

“Our focus lately has been on special events such as the October Classic which we are very excited about, we are also planning the largest open wheel event we have ever put together,” continued Collins.

The rules for the three track divisions are now posted at www.kerncountynascar.com for the AC Electric Late Model Series, the Melo’s Gas and Gear Street Stock Series, and the Urner’s All-American Sport Compact Series.

“We worked with a lot of people in formulating the rules and greatly appreciate their input in writing the rule books.” stated Collins.

“We had a clean slate so we wrote the rules to carry racing into the next decade. We are especially pleased with our Late Model rule book as it opens the opportunity for the Western Late Models from northern California and the cars from Southern California to compete together within our Late Model Series.” Collins added.

“I would like to especially thank Jeff at Race Car Factory, Mark at Victory Circle and Gary at Collins Motorsports for their collective help with the rule book.” Collins concluded.

Number of Companies Associated with 2008 Season Continues to Grow:

As construction moves forward, so does the business side of preparing for the 2008 race season.

“We continue to be overwhelmed with the level of support and enthusiasm the business community and the motorsports industry have shown toward our new facility.” stated track vice-president, Brian Olsen.

“We have partnerships with a growing list of great companies that have insured that 2008 will be an unbelievable year at our new raceway.” added Olsen.

Over the past few weeks, agreements have continued to be signed for the upcoming race season and beyond including JoRonCo Party Rentals association with the 6,000 square foot beer garden pavilion overlooking Turn 1 that will be known as the “JoRonCo Party Rentals Turn 1 Tavern.”

“I can't wait for NASCAR racing to get back underway on a weekly basis and looking at the new track, it will be better than ever,” stated Ron Holbert, owner of JoRonCo Party Rentals.

“I'm really excited about sponsoring the Turn 1 Tavern. As our name says, you can expect a party just about every race in the Tavern.” added Holbert.

Other recently signed agreements include Urner’s as the title sponsor of the All-American Sport Compact Series. Long-time Mesa Marin sponsor Melo’s Gas and Gear will be title sponsor of the 2008 NASCAR Street Stock Series, and Bakersfield RV Resort has join the track’s family of sponsors as the “Official RV Resort of Kern County’s New Home to NASCAR”.
