MAY 30 & 31 RACES AT MANZANITA SPEEDWAYStock cars take center stage this weekend with the Super Stock Touring Series running on Manzanita Speedway's half mile track Saturday night. The will share the card with the factory stocks and bombers, both of which will be on Manzy's one third mile oval.

The factory stocks get their weekend off to an early start as the are also on the Friday night program along with the Southwest Modlites, SCRA sport modifieds and bombers.

The chase for the super stock car touring series has Chris Odom tied with Ron Funk for the points lead and he will be seeking his third straight win on the half mile track. In addition, Chris has also scored a win in Tucson.

The tour race in February attracted 25 cars with all crowding on the "big" track for their feature race. In that one Odom beat two time super stock champion Kenny Gill with Funk in third. Then he beat the 2007 champion Don Costa on April 19 with Funk garnering a sixth place finish.

JJ LeMoine continues to reign as top dog in the Desert Dwarf Cars but he failed to finish in his last outing and now has a slim 14 point lead over Brian Stehr with the defending champion Chris Snyder, winner last time out at Manzanita 68 points in arrears.

The dwarf cars are, as usual, providing full fields for their races as they are averaging over 30 cars per outing at Manzy.

Ron Poe is the points leader in the SCRA factory stocks but with two nights of racing this weekend his lead is anything but safe. Poe has only one win but has posted five top fives and one more in the top ten. He has a good lead of 40 points over Matt Martinez, a three time winner. A total of 90 main event points plus twenty in heat races and eight in trophy dashes can be scored.

Brent Radtke won his first ever main event May ninth adding his name to the winner's list which also has Anthony Madrid and Justin Upton, the defending champion, on the list.

The Southwest Modlites will be making only their second appearance of the year at Manzanita as they share the one third mile track with the factory stocks and lady stocks Friday night. The

SMA had 27 cars for their April 19 race when John Priest beat Terry Belcher and Tony Martin. Officials are again expecting 25-30 modlites.

The lady stocks have yet to produce a repeat winner this year and the field is usually a wide open affair as some entrants are left without a car after the men get through racing.

Adult admission is $10 Friday night and $12 Saturday night with children under 12 admitted free each night. Students 12-18 admission is $8 Friday and $10 Saturday. Gates open at 5:00 with competitive racing taking the first green flag at 7:00.####
