GRAYS HARBOR RACEWAY - WEEKEND PREVIEWThe action will be hot and heavy at Grays Harbor Raceway located at the fairgrounds in Elma this weekend as the I-5 Late Models make the first of two appearances for the Mountain Dew/AMP Energy 50. As an added bonus the best Hobby/Street Stocks in the Northwest will be on hand for the Inaugural Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby Stock Challenge. The two race series to be held at Grays Harbor Raceway should see the best Hobby Stock/Street Stock drivers in the Northwest battle for 50 laps in the $1000.00 to win event. The events will see all cars running their local rules, with the exception of the tire rule. The June 21st race will see the drivers run 11” slicks that the Street Stock drivers at Sunset Raceway in Banks, Oregon and Rivercity Speedway in St Helen’s, Oregon use. The final event on September 13th, again in conjunction with the Mountain Dew/AMP Energy 50 I-5 Late Models will run on the 8” treaded Hoosier and American Racer Tires.

There will be a $1200 points fund for the top 5 drivers that compete in both events, with $500 of that going to the overall point champion. Entry forms for the Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby Stock Challenge Series are now online.

The I-5 Late Models will return to Grays Harbor Raceway for the first time in a couple of years and should put on an exciting show as 30 of the best dirt Late Model drivers in the Northwest will battle on the fast 3/8’s high banked clay oval. Headlining the list will be three time I-5 Champion and defending Champion Trevor Glasser from Tangent, Oregon, along with other form I-5 Champions Rob Mayea from Bend, Oregon, Bob Boyd from Albany, Oregon, and Russ Sell from Brownsville, Oregon. Greg Walters from Banks, Oregon the two time Fast Track Late Model and Sunset Speedway Champion will also be on hand to battle the Williamette Speedway regulars, Walters was also a two time Super Sport champion at Williamette.

The Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby Stock Challenge Series will see local drivers included 2007 Champion and current points leader Zack Simpson from Hoquim, Aberdeen drivers Joe German and Jack Parshall along with Elma’s Chaz Wilde rand Centralia’s Scott Westly battle Oregon drivers Shawn Thompson from Oregon City, Noel and Chris Graf from Astoria, Kari Puncochar the ladies division Champion from 2007 and currently in third place in the Street Stock division at Banks from Hillsboro, Oregon along with former Portland Speedway Street Stock Champion and current Sunset Speedway points leader Sonny Sayre from Vancouver, Washington.

The front gate will open at 4:30 on Saturday, qualifying at 6:00, with racing to follow.####
