CAMERON AND THE NO. 18 AAA TOYOTA TEAM RECORD A TOP-TEN

ANTELOPE, California – Austin Cameron and the No. 18 AAA Approved Auto Repair Toyota team finished seventh of 41 racers at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. This was his fourth top-ten finish this season. Cameron and the team from Bill McAnally Racing ran hard after starting the race in sixth on the 1.99-mile road course.

Crew chief Mike Steurer made the call to come in at lap 19 to take on fuel while the race was under the second of 12 caution periods of the race. Cameron put the No. 18 AAA Toyota Camry at the top of the board at lap 30 before losing the position to the eventual race winner.

Under the 7th caution which included a red flag, Cameron came in at lap 43 for fuel. “We knew it was going to be tight on fuel with so many cautions,” said Cameron. “We came back out and it looked like we would be back to green flag racing but the caution came back out. We were running in 15th after the stop so Mike Steurer made the call to come back in for fresh tires. It made the difference as the laps wound down.”

“We definitely had a top-five car. The cautions worked against us in that we’d pass some cars, the caution would come out and NASCAR would revert back to the last completed lap. So we kept passing the same cars over and over again.”

Cameron and the No. 18 AAA Toyota team remain 4th in the chase for the championship and only 31 points out of third.

The next race for the NCWS West is at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, California on Friday, July 4th. The race will be televised live on HDNet and be presented as an enhanced replay on SPEED Channel.
