BE CAREFUL IF YOU CALL THE NASCAR CAMPING WORLD BORINGNASCAR CAMPING WORLD SERIES
Source: Patti Ann Dugan
![]() Watch out what you say on RacingWest, not all the fans want to hear the truth about the NASCAR Camping World Series. Unlike other forms of motorsports that is heavily covered in the press, the NCWS is covered mostly by the Daytona Beach approved press releases, the naturally biased team press releases and local newspaper and radio stations that follow the hometown hero and see no further than one or two cars. There is very little coverage of this series and teams and fans are not accustomed to reading the truth. When there is bad news it remains buried in message boards, like the one on RacingWest.com, one of many forums I frequently avoid. I recently wrote a recap on the Bennett Lane 200, a NCWS race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, a race which saw 40 of its 68 laps under caution, a race that was slowed even further by red flags that completely stopped the race action. The race itself was coined “The Yellow Caution 200”. I said it was boring. That brought on the cries of the faithful followers. Perhaps boring was harsh. When the race was green it was exciting…it was a bump to pass, cut ‘em off in the corner destruction derby. NASCAR West champ Eric Holmes put it best, “It was ridiculous how many crashes were out here today.” Unfortunately for the majority of the race we fans were left cooking in the sun while the track was cleaned up and readied for “racing”. That means despite the excitement of the front runners jostling for the win, most of the time we were in fact, bored. Until the day comes that I am paid by a series or team to write a sugar coated release I will continue to write the truth, the good and bad. Now I look forward to seeing what this series does at Irwindale. I anticipate the race to be a hot one and will therefore be taking advantage of my 60” Pioneer and save myself some money on gas. As for the image that RacingWest put up with my article, I did not approve that and did not like it. I would have preferred a caution flag or a shot of the fans covered in sweat watching the clean up vehicles. Even a picture of Jeff Jefferson and Kevin O’Connell’s contact would have been preferable to that amateurish attempt at photo “enhancement”.
Ah well…looking forward to the 4th of July and Irwindale! See Also .: News Index | E-mail to a Friend Article posted by RacingWest.com staff on 06/30/2008. http://www.racingwest.com
