JEFFERSON KNOWS TOYOTA SPEEDWAY IS PLACE TO GET BACK ON-TRACK

NACHES, Washington -- Jeff Jefferson, driver of the MJ2 Racing Chevrolet, is finding the 2008 season on the NASCAR Camping World Series a bigger challenge then he ever imagined. Even though he is currently ninth in the overall point standings, his finishes this season are not what the three-time NASCAR champion had envisioned.

“We are struggling,” Jefferson said. “We have great equipment, a first class team, but no luck on the race track.”

Jefferson’s sole highlight this season came at Phoenix Int’l Raceway in the second race on the schedule where his finished in third place. Other than that his best finish has been 10th in the combined race at Iowa. Jefferson and team look to put ill-handling cars, flat tires, and a devastating crash at Infineon behind them and focus on the second half of the season.

“It is our time to shine,” Jefferson stated. “We have had pretty bad luck but that is in the past. We have a lot of racing to do the rest of the year and I am thrilled to be heading to Toyota Speedway this week. The track is the best there is and I love racing there. We are bringing the same car we finished third at PIR with and I know we can be more competitive then we have been.”

Toyota Speedway at Irwindale is the finest short track in the country and has hosted 16 previous NCWS events dating back to 1999. Thirty cars will make up the starting grid and Jefferson knows that a good starting spot will do a lot to improve his chances at a top finish.

“We need to qualify well for the race,” Jefferson stated. “When you look at the year Eric Holmes has had you notice he has started up front in all races. The BMR team has set the standard so it is up to us to qualify in the top five. If we can do that I know we can get a great finish.”

Jefferson drives a team car to Jim Warn and is sponsored by MJ2 Racing, Gran Prix Imports, and Leupold Optic. The car is powered by a Chevrolet NASCAR Spec Engine and sits atop a Hopkins chassis. Jefferson has 30 career NCWS starts with one win, 8 top five and 14 top ten finishes along with two Coors Light Pole Awards. Jefferson is currently ninth in the NCWS standings after six races with one top five and two top ten finishes.

The California Highway Patrol “200” at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale is round seven of the 13-race NASCAR Camping World Series-West schedule for 2008. The race will be televised live on HDNet with the green flag slated for 8:10 pm (PT). SPEED Channel will have an enhanced reply of the race on July 18 at 1:30 pm (ET). 2008 is the 55th year of competition for the NASCAR Camping World Series-West.
