IS THERE SOMETHING BESIDES NASCAR AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY THIS WEEKEND?NASCAR WEST AND ASA NW TOUR
Source: Janet Peery
![]() One of the Northwest's biggest racing events of the season is coming up this weekend at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington. The race weekend will feature 500 laps of exciting NASCAR and ASA racing action. It is a wonderful opportunity for cross promotion by teams, track and sanctioning bodies. Note I am emphasizing sanctioning BODIES, because it appears one sanctioning body, NASCAR, does not want to be part of this cross promotion. While the ASA Northwest Tour release mentions all the competition that will be at the track this Saturday, including the NASCAR Les Schwab Tires Bombers, the NASCAR Speedway Chevrolet Super Stocks and the NASCAR Camping World West Series--the NASCAR release has no mention of the ASA. Instead, the NASCAR release refers to the ASA as "a late model touring series" with no mention of the ASA name. At first read the omission of the ASA name seems almost childish, but then it makes one wonder, could it be that NASCAR is afraid of other sanctioning bodies? The ASA Northwest Tour has many of the Northwest's biggest talent, including drivers that at one time raced in the NASCAR West Series. In fact ASA driver Ron Eaton is not only a multiple winner at the track in the NASCAR West series, but is also tied with Bill Elliott for the most NASCAR West poles at the track. The lack of mention of the ASA in the NASCAR West Series release is a shame. NASCAR had the ability to bring more fans out to see the NASCAR race BECAUSE of the ASA race there. It is my opinion NASCAR doesn't understand how much they need others to help them promote a Series that has a very limited outreach. They could have lured fans out to the track and shown them that the NASCAR West is more than the "Taxi Cabs" a lot of people believe them to be.
Ah well.that is just the way it is with NASCAR. The racing action will still be exciting.in all the races, including the NASCAR West, the NASCAR Bombers, the NASCAR Super Stocks and oh yes..that "late model touring series" that will also be there.
