FOUGHT WINS THIRD STRAIGHT AT EPHRATA RACEWAY PARKIt was SR Custom Auto and Superior Refrigeration night at Ephrata Raceway Park featuring a fully loaded 5 class racing card. In action at the racetrack were the 360 Sprint cars, Limited Late Model Racing Series, Mini Stocks, Kim Janke State Farm Agent Youth Hornets and the BIG CARS.

After Kurt Meyers set fast time in the 360 Sprint cars with a 13.51 second lap, Kevin Witte won the heat race and Doug Peter won the heat race. In the main event, it looked like a repeat of the midseason championship night second main event for the 360 Sprint cars with Doug Peter setting the pace and opening a commanding lead as Mike Fought and Kurt Meyer struggled with traffic. A mid race caution closed the field and Fought worked his way around Peter for the win going away. For Fought it was his third straight 360 Sprint car main event win at Ephrata Raceway Park.

Tacoma, WA driver “Terrible” Tim McDougald swept the evenings action in the Limited Late Model Racing Series. McDougald set fast time at 15.13, won the A dash, heat race and 30-lap main event. John Boyatt won the B trophy dash.

It was Ladies Night in the Kim Janke State Farm Agent Youth Hornet division as Stephnie Patty set fast time at 17.40. Then won the main event. Tara Noakes won the A trophy dash, Jatender Veenstra was the A heat race winner. Also picking up wins were Derek Burck in the B trophy dash and Austin Schooler in the B heat race.

For the Mini Stocks, Joe Smith was the man of the night. He won the A dash, A heat race and the main event in a great battle with Jeff Hector. Hector set fast time at 16.49. Nick Gardner won the B dash and Charles Larr won the B heat race.

Once again the BIG CARS left a lasting impression. After Chris McCart set fast time at 18.37, Daniel Hector and Josh Hector won the two trophy dashes. Then Josh Hector won the heat race. In the main event, the cars were lined up straight up by time. From a standing start the cars went backwards from the start finish line around the track once. When they crossed the start finish line ending the first lap then headed back into traffic coming at them head on backwards! Travis Lucas and Robert Henderson went out on that first lap with an astonishingly hard hit that took out both cars right on the front straight. The race was red flagged to make sure both drivers were okay but the cars were munched. From then on, it was the usually entertaining assortment of spins, 360’s and wrecks with Chris McCart winding up the winner.

Next Saturday night August 2nd at Ephrata Raceway Park, Kleyn’s Auto Sales presents Kid’s Night. All kids 5 to 17 accompanied by an adult get in for $5.00. And the annual kid bike races will be held with some lucky kid winning a bike. On the racetrack that night are the Ephrata Pioneer Muffler II Adult Hornets, the Mini Stocks, Jerry’s Auto Supply Hobby Stocks and the Pepsi Cola Street Stocks.
