RINGERS GLOVES RACING RECAPMINDY’S MONDAY MINUTE
Source: Ringers Gloves Media Relations
I love traveling to the Sonoma Valley, not only because Infineon Raceway is in an absolutely gorgeous setting, but, of course, all the fun wineries in the area! On Wednesday, some members of David Powers Motorsports and I took our annual wine bus tour. This year we ventured up U.S. 101 to the Healdsburg and Russian River Valley areas. On Thursday evening, I had the pleasure of dining in San Francisco’s Little Italy with motorcycle photographer Matt Polito and his wife, Kevin McKenna (NHRA and National Dragster staff writer), NHRA announcer Alan Reinhart and ESPN’s “stat guy” Lewis Bloom. At the close of the day on Sunday, two Ringers’ supported racers found themselves in the “Wine Country Winner’s Circle” of Infineon Raceway being interviewed by the one and only aforementioned Reinhart. Rocklin Motorsports’ Matt Guidera picked up his second win of the season in the Pro Stock Motorcycle category in front of his home crowd over Vance & Hines/Harley-Davidson rider and past champion Andrew Hines. Guidera collected his third career Wally with a holeshot win and a 7.054-second/185.74 second mph run. The second part of the Ringers’ duo to land in the Winner’s Circle on Sunday was Cagnazzi Racing’s Dave Connolly. Either way it would have tossed up, a Victor Cagnazzi-owned car would have been in the Winner’s Circle, as Connolly beat out his teammate Jeg Coughlin Jr., with a .012-second reaction time and 6.628-second/207.69 mph pass. Sunday’s win also marked Connolly’s second win of 2008; the win also boosted him into the POWERade Top 10 in Pro Stock points. NHRA enjoys a weekend off before heading up north to Brainerd, Minn., for the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway, August 7-10. The NASCAR elite series visited the “Racing Capital of the World” between the venues of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard and the events at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. On Thursday night, the USAC Mopar Midget Championship Series took to the .686-mile track to kick off the events leading up to the race at the “big track” on Sunday. Ringers’ friend Chuck Gurney Jr. pulled ahead of the field to lead all 30 laps in the race and to pick up his first USAC National Event win. Friday night at ORP saw the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in action in the Power Stroke Diesel 200 presented by AAA Hoosier Insurance. Ringers’ supporter Brendan Gaughan led the Ringers’ supporting teams and drivers to the checkered flag, collecting a sixth-place finish. On Sunday, the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard rolled off with Penske Racing’s Ryan Newman and his No. 12 Alltel Dodge in the third position. Tire wear was a huge issue with drivers and teams throughout the day. NASCAR even stepped in and threw competition cautions throughout the latter part of the race. The Penske Racing trio finished with Newman in 13th, rookie Sam Hornish Jr. in the No. 77 Mobil 1 21st and Kurt Busch’s No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge in 40th after he was involved in an incident with Kevin Harvick on lap 14. Each NASCAR series heads different ways this weekend; Sprint Cup Series to Pocono, the Nationwide Series north of the border to Montreal and the Trucks to the Music City of Nashville for their respective races. The Andretti Green Racing contingent visited the Edmonton City Centre Airport in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada over the weekend for the Rexall Edmonton Indy. The No. 11 Team 7-Eleven entry led the AGR teams to the finish in the ninth position, followed by the No. 26 Blockbuster car, who was involved in two separate incidents during the race, in 17th and finally the No. 27 Formula Dream team who bowed out after 10 laps due to contact. The IndyCar Series trucks onto Kentucky Speedway for the Meijer Indy 300. In Chula Vista, Calif., on Saturday and Sunday the Championship Off-Road Racing (CORR) Series was in action for Rounds 7 and 8 of their 2008 schedule. Ringers’ supporting driver Scott Douglas and his No. 7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Ford F-150 scored a victory in Round 8 of competition, not too far from his El Cajon home, in the Pro-4 class. Douglas now sits just nine points out of the first place position heading into the Pomona event, August 16-17.
