KEVIN O'CONNELL RACING DOUBLES DOWN AGAIN IN 2008 AT CIRCUIT GILLES VILLENEUVE

ORANGE COUNTY, California -- O'Connell Racing (OConnellRacing.com), a southern California based Grand-Am Rolex Series and NASCAR road racing team announced today that it has entered the Rolex Series race and the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at the famed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada this weekend. The team will transport its primary #27 Porsche 997 GT-3 Cup car that it finished P-5 in at the Six Hours of the Glen in Watkins Glen, New York and it’s #09 GEM/Taleo Grill Monte Carlo that team driver Kevin O'Connell drove in the Mexico City Nationwide race in April.

O'Connell commented, “We executed this double duty effort earlier in the year in Mexico City with Kevin Roush and I driving in the Rolex car and with the team running the entire Rolex race finishing 10th and then the next day running as high as 23rd in the NASCAR race before getting crashed out by the #99. I think the Rolex Series experience is giving us a real opportunity to do well in the NASCAR road course races. However, without the overall commitment and double duty effort lead by Roy, Barry and Rick as well as the race weekend guys to run these races back to back this would not be possible.”

The team is in the process of completing a new purpose built road course specific NASCAR Nationwide Series car that was not completed in time for the two back to back weekends of Montreal and Watkins Glen. In light of this disappointment, the team will consider running the NASCAR Watkins Glen race if there is no substantive damage from the Montreal race. Crew Chief Barry O’Brien commented, “We really want to run the race at the Glen. We did well there in Rolex in June and we think we can bring the right car for that race. We are going to see what happens after Montreal and if we can pull it off we are going to use a friend’s car dealership in New York for an engine swap and prep and show up with a late entry.”
