SELLERS NOTCHES ANOTHER TOP THREE FINISH

MANSFIELD, Oh — Great teams seem to find a way. Peyton Sellers and the #44 Specialty Fertilizer Products Chevrolet found their way onto the podium again this weekend at Mansfield Motorsports Park in the 10th race of the NASCAR Camping World East Series season. It was Sellers’ third top-three finish in the past four races, putting him in eighth place in the series standings overall and just over 100 points out of fourth place.

But the task was not easy this time, as the team dealt with handling and mechanical issues throughout the day. Sellers was 9th fastest in practice and posted an 11th place qualifying time. The #44 Specialty Fertilizer Products Chevrolet was one of the first cars to pit, continuing to make adjustments. Sellers hung mid-way in the pack for about the first 80 laps.

“It was a handful today”, said Sellers, “but we worked on it non-stop and were able to stay out of trouble. It was tight in the middle, and we just couldn’t get a balance on it.” A flurry of cautions late in the race gave the former National Champion an opportunity to begin making his way towards the front. With about 20 laps to go, Sellers was running third when mechanical issues struck.

“We were moving along pretty well there towards the end, when the battery started to die”, said Sellers. “I could feel it getting worse with every lap. We were glad to see the checkered come and still get a top three out of it”. By the time the car made it in front of the grandstands for the trophy presentations, the alternator was out and it had to be pushed to refire.

“I honestly don’t know how he got that much out of it, especially after the battery issue late in the

race”, commented team owner Andy Santerre. Peyton’s not only a talent on the track, he knows how to stay out of trouble too. There was a lot of tight racing out there today. We had some good spotting, and the crew really worked their hearts out. These are the kind of days when you know you’ve got a great team. When everybody can come together and find a way to finish like this.”

The race marked the second of three races sponsored by Specialty Fertilizer Products. The company’s revolutionary products Avail® and NutriSphere-N® are designed to be added to a farmer’s existing fertilizer to improve its interaction with the plant and/or soil, increasing crop yield potential from 10-15%. SFP returns again to sponsor the team at the upcoming race in Dover in four weeks. The team is also sponsored by Casella Waste Systems, and has a partnership with SkillsUSA, one of the country’s largest student non-profit organizations supporting students entering the skilled trades.

With just three races to go in the season, the team returns now to prepare for Loudon on September 12th. This race, as well as the following weekend in Dover, will be a triple-header at those tracks with the Nationwide/Craftsman Truck and Sprint Cup races appearing there that same weekend. Both races will be broadcast live on HDNet and tape delayed on SPEED Channel’s Racing Across America segment. Check your local listings for full details.
