Source: Yakima Media Relations/rb
ELLENSBURG, Washington — Race fans from throughout the region will have an opportunity to watch the best drivers and teams at Yakima Speedway when the American Speed Association Northwest Tour cars and the ARCA West Late Model Challenge racers come to town on Labor day weekend. Continuing a tradition that was started last year, the two top traveling late model series will run separate events on two different days. The ASA Tour cars will compete on Saturday evening in a 125 lap event. Also on the show will be the very fast and exciting modifieds. The local Super Stock division will also appear on Saturday. A good field of cars is expected in all classes. Front gates will open both days at 4:00 with time trials at 5:00 and racing at 7:00. The ARCA West LMCS will highlight the Sunday show with a big 150 lap race. The LMCS cars will have a break at or around lap 100, to give the teams an opportunity to do small chassis changes, and prepare their cars for the 50 lap shootout. This format has proven very exciting for the fans and crews. Also on the Sunday event will be the local Hobby and Hobby Sportsman classes. Saturday will mark the return of Chris Hart to the drivers seat. Hart, a past champion in all divisions of cars, will be piloting a car owned by the Tidrick race team. Chris is extremely happy and excited to once again get behind the wheel of a Tour car. The popular driver is taking it just one race at a time and we all hope this will mark his return to racing. Gary Lewis will be doing double duty as he will try to continue his hot streak of 2008. The past Tour champion has won almost every big event of the year. His resume reads like a map of every huge event held anywhere in the Northwest for this year. He will have strong competition from Brad Stanwood, points leader in the ASA Tour, defending ASA Tour champ, B.J. Tidrick, Jason Fraser, Pete Harding, Jay Sauls, Travis Bennett">Travis Bennett, Darren Stordahl, Shelby Thompson, Shane Harding, Hard Racynski, Owen Riddle, Christopher Kalsch, Dan Obrist and many others. The open wheel Mods will make their second appearance in 2008. Cars are expected from the Spokane and Wenatchee areas. This is a combination points race for their clubs. B.J. Tidrick will be doing double duty as he will pilot a mod in the race on Saturday. Tidrick ran real strong in his only other start in a mod at the Apple Cup. Mechanical problems shortened his race then, but he will be racing against the best in the business when he takes on Shane Mitchell, Jr. Quick, the Snevas and the rest of the top quality cars. Possibly the best news for the weekend for race fans, drivers and crews is the confirmation that Christian Roeder will be racing a mod on Saturday in Yakima. A recent call from Christian to inform officials that he will be racing the mod owned by Chuck Reed from Wenatchee, is great news for all of his fans and friends in the Northwest. A return to the sport he loves so much, is heart warming and helps put everything in perspective. Sundays race, the NAPA “150” will have local racer, Erick Hargraves, leading the charge of very talented drivers. All of the LMCS regulars plan to attend with many teams that will be racing in the division for the first time. This event has become a must see for race fans. Teams use this opportunity to get prepared for the Fall classic set for October 3-4-5. ![]() See Also .: News Index | E-mail to a Friend Article posted by RacingWest.com staff on 08/26/2008. http://www.racingwest.com
