BOISE, Idaho — The Bullring, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, is one of the marquee racing facilities in the Western United States. Over the past decade, it's 3/8 mile racing surface has produced some of the best short-track racing on the West Coast, and some of the biggest names in racing today. Officials for the Supermodified Racing Association (SMRA), and Las Vegas Motor Speedway announced today that the Bullring will host the final race of the 2008 SMRA season on Saturday, November 1, 2008. The SMRA sanctioned supermodifieds will join two additional premier divisions for "Speed Fest," one of the biggest nights of Fall racing and the final event of the year for the Bullring. This event coincides over the weekend with another large event at LVMS with the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals at the "Strip." "We are pleased to partner with Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the Bullring on this last, big event of the season," said Brad Belveal, President of the Supermodified Racing Association. "Chris Blair and Mike Turner of LVMS have worked very diligently over the past couple of months to make this a reality for 2008 and provide a stepping stone for future events" Belveal said. Troy Regier of Dinuba, CA holds the Track Record at the Bullring with a time of 12.499, which was set in 2004. The incredibly fast supermodifieds will compete for more than $12,000 in guaranteed purse money. The SMRA sanctioned event will include 2 practice sessions, qualifying, heat races, and a 50 lap main event. This will be a full point's event as the point's race tightens sharply going into the last two events of the season. "We are excited to be working with Brad (Belveal), and the racers of the Supermodified Racing Association (SMRA)," said Chris Blair, vice president of racing operations at LVMS. "We know that our fans will enjoy the level and brand of racing that the supermodifeds bring whenever they come to the Bullring." "I'm looking forward to going back to Las Vegas as we've always ran well there and it's a great facility," said Jeff Russell, current SMRA points leader and long time supermodified Owner/Driver. Drivers expected to compete at the Bullring include current point's leader Jeff Russell of Boise, Idaho. Seven time supermodified "Iron Champion" and current Bullring Track Record holder, Troy Regier of Dinuba California. Young gun and second in points, Bobby Dalton of San Martin, CA. Perennial challenger Jim Birges of Fresno, California will compete. Sophomore sensation Bryan Warf, of Meridian, ID, who is coming off his first win of the 2008 season at Madera Speedway in August. Additional racers expected to compete include 2007 Supermodified Champion, Martin McKeefery of Milpitas, CA. Colorado racers include, Richy Castor Jr., Johnny Pickard, Harry Stone, and Ira Castor. Dale Lamborn of Carson City, Nevada. The "Super Duo" of Eric Silsby and Amy Barnes of Minden, NV, Pat Whittet of Boise, ID and 2007 East-West Supermodified Shootout Champion A.J. Russell of California are all expected to participate. Supermodified Racing Association (SMRA) is the leading sanctioning body of Supermodified racing on the West Coast and is based in Boise, ID. The next event for the Supermodified Racing Association is Saturday, September 20 at Madera Speedway in Madera, California.
