ACCIDENT ENDS RACE BELLE ISLE RACE EARLY FOR VISO AND THE PDVSA HVM TEAM

Venue: The Raceway at Belle Isle Park, two-mile road course, Detroit, Michigan

Starting Position: 9

Finishing Position: 24

Notes:

The PDVSA HVM Racing team had their day cut short during Sunday’s Detroit Indy Grand Prix after driver E.J. Viso had an accident on lap 32 of the 90-lap event.

For the second consecutive weekend, the team was off to a strong start.

They were running in the ninth position before a caution on lap 17 helped Viso advance to the sixth position. On lap 30, the team relinquished that spot for their first stop for fuel and tires.

Viso returned to the track in the 10th position, but two laps later the car suffered terminal damage when Viso hit the outside of the Turn 12 wall while running eighth. Viso was unhurt in the accident but the team’s day was over finishing 24.

On the same lap, Vitor Meira and Danica Patrick made contact also causing a caution. The PDVDSA HVM Racing team was not involved in that incident nor had any involvement with those participants as they were

already behind Viso. It is only their third DNF of the season.

Comments from PDVSA HVM Racing Owner Keith Wiggins after Sunday’s Indy Grand Prix of Detroit:

“It’s unfortunate because we were having another good run. We were just starting to begin our strategy before the accident. The team was fast all day.”

Comments from PDVSA HVM Racing Driver E.J. Viso after Sunday’s Indy Grand Prix of Detroit:

“I cleanly overtook Danica (Patrick) after our pit stop and was running far ahead of her and Vitor Meira. I never had any contact with either driver and it was a separate racing accident.

“I went into the turn and the car felt like it does when you drive over oil or something like that. The car slipped and felt like it had no grip. It’s disappointing for the team because we were having another strong run.”
