FEATHERLITE SOUTHWEST SERIES
Source: NASCAR
Date: 08/11/2002

Irwindale, Calif. (August 10, 2002)-Burney Lamar collected his second career
Featherlite Southwest Series,NASCAR Touring victory in as many weeks in
front of a capacity crowd at Irwindale Speedway Saturday night. Lamar led
all 150-laps of the Auto Club "150" en route to a payday of more than $6400.
Auggie Vidovich Jr. came home second, with Zach Niessner in third, Jim
Pettit II in fourth, and Dan Holtz rounding out the top five finishers.
Lamar, by virtue of his win, climbs back into second place in the series
point standings behind Eddy McKean. McKean gave up points tonight after a
flat right front caused the point leader to pit under green and subsequently
lost two laps. M.K. Kanke drops to third in the standings, with Jim Pettit
II moving up to fourth, and Todd Souza maintaining the fifth position.
The race took 57 minuets/52 seconds to complete at an average speed of
77.764 mph and was only slowed for two caution periods lasting 21-laps.
Brandon Whitt picked up Rookie-of-the-Race honors with a tenth place finish
and lengthened his Rookie point lead over Steve Belletto to six points.
Kevin Vernon grabbed his first career Bud Pole Award with a quick lap of
17.780/101.237 mph and Burney Lamar collected his fifth Gatorade Front
Runner Award of the season for leading the most laps (150).
The next race on the Featherlite Southwest Series is this coming Saturday,
August 17 at Colorado National Speedway.
