Source: ES Media Relations
The Super Stocks Dodge 100 started with an eight-car invert. Scott Sarto was on the pole. Ron Fritzley was strong in the first 33 laps on the 3/8 oval but all eyes were on Jason Jefferson and Tom Moriarity. The two eased up through the invert to run side by side several laps in the second position. Moriarity passed Jefferson in Lap 22 but Jefferson was undaunted. He held the third position as Moriarity crept up on Fritzley. Moriarity got ahead of Fritzley on Lap 33 bringing cheers from the crowds. A yellow flag tightened up the field at Lap 40. The green saw Jefferson push ahead of Fritzley to take second while Moriarity shot ahead leaving everyone several car lengths behind. Lap 51 tightened the field again with another yellow flag to remove debris from the track but Moriarity walked away from Jefferson yet again. Roger Habich began seriously battling with Jefferson for the second position at Lap 80. Habich pulled ahead and held on. Jefferson remained persistent. Moriarity easily took the win. After the race he commented, “We don’t need to change anything on the car from the 3/8 to the 5/8 ovals. The car likes both tracks.” Habich was second, followed by Jefferson in third and Fritzley rounded out fourth. With this win, Moriarity cut the points gap between himself and points leader John Zaretzke from 37 points to a mere 7 points. Mechanical problems withdrew Zaretzke to the pits early in the race. He did not return to finish. The Randy’s Ring & Pinion Bomber feature started with a 15 lap B Main. It was a battle of the Bills as Bill Eddy was dogged by Driver of the Week Bill Mann. No other serious contenders emerged allowing Eddy the win and sending both drivers up to compete in the 30 lap A Main. The A Main race started with chaos in turn one of Lap One. Craig Szweda hit Darin Stordahl bringing out the red flag. The red flag was back out at turn three of the same lap. Jason Fraser ended up in the wall and his car left on a hook. After a restart, John Burtsche came in with a strong lead. It was impossible to ignore the bumping and aggressive driving in the back of the field that lead to a three-car spin and another flag. Steve Ptacek took the lead with Naima Lang challenging. Duane Schosboek stayed in Lang’s rear view. Lang provided spectators with a fabulous finish as he battled past Ptacek on the last lap for the win at the line. Schosboek took third. The NASCAR Mini Stock feature also required a restart. There was a melee in turn one. Dave Ramey grabbed a strong lead. Tony Blunkelman was in the second position while Michael Johnston stayed close behind. Johnston passed Blunkelman who soon lost position to Jaime Richardson. The final result had Dave Ramey take the trophy with Johnston in second, Richardson third and Ken Jorgensen fourth. The FEAR B Main Super F8 feature was won by Theresa Houghtaling. Rod Griffin was second. Both drivers were able to compete in the Super F8 A Main feature. The A Main started with Wendi Boyd shooting ahead. She negotiated traffic well until contact at Lap 13 sent her back to the pits. Ricky Deitz took the lead and Pat Clark held second with Doug Delfel close behind. It looked good for Deitz until he got caught in traffic. Pat Clark of Marysville took the checkered flag with John Carlson second and Delfel third. Geoff Chandler of Kirkland made the crowd gasp in Lap 1of the Xtreme Contact F8 feature. His car did a slow roll and ended up upside down bringing out the red flag and emergency crews. Chandler walked to the ambulance for a routine check as the tow truck worked to get his vehicle upright and get it off the track. The race was dominated by Steve Peters of Monroe who was driving Troy Simianer’s #16. Perry Huffman, who also had a strong race, took second and Nick Niesen followed in third. After the race Peters commented with a grin, “Troy had to go to South Dakota and I got a chance to drive a really nice car. I’m used to old junkers.” There were five dashes on Saturday night. Jason Jefferson of Yakima took the Super Stocks dash. The checkered flag for the Mini Stocks dash went to Ken Jorgensen. The Bomber dash was won by Steve Ptacek. Ricky Deitz of Arlington took the victory for the Super F8 dash while Perry Huffman of Everett won the Xtreme Contact F8 dash.
