When Round 1 of Davey Hamilton's Wild West Late Model Shootout thunders into action, Saturday, March 20 at Altamont Raceway Park in Tracy, California, 16 year-old racing phenomenon Mike Mason will be ready to power his way right to the front of the field.

"I'm really excited about running in this series," says Mason, who pilots the No. 55 A.S. Mason Trucking & Crane Chevrolet. "We tested at Altamont last week and our car was right on. "We ran some fast times and while this will be the very first time I have raced on this track, I think we will be able to do well."

And doing well is nothing new for this Bakersfield High School student. Racing for the past 11 years, Mason has more than managed to carve a name for himself in the motorsports industry. In fact, starting in late models just two years ago, this enterprising young man made twenty two starts, earning four wins, one Trophy Dash victory, ten top 5 finishes and 17 top ten finishes.

"Altamont is definitely a fun track," continues Mason. "It is smooth and fast. In fact, it is aptly referred to as the 'Fastest Half-Mile in the West'. Doing well will require good concentration and lots of patience. The trick will be not to overdrive and to save something for the end. It's going be tough on tires and there are no planned pit stops. The final laps could really tell the story. There is some really tough competition out there, but I feel our team is really strong. Our crew chief Rick Grissom is well-versed on what it takes to win and he definitely knows how to set the car up, so we should be good to go." Page 2

One of the hardest chargers in racing today, Mason has that fire-burning desire and dedication that breeds true champions. He is extremely aware of all the elements that go into a successful racing venture. "I know this is going to be a great year," he states with obvious conviction. While naturally, we always want to win, our major goal is to take Rookie of the Year honors and that is what we intend to do. There are a total of 11 races in this year's series and hopefully you will see us in Victory Lane more than once this season."####
