BLYTHE, California -- If you were looking for a thrill at the Country Mardi Gras Colorado River Fair, you could have joined the bungy jumpers or watched three divisions of stock cars battle it out on the asphalt track at the Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway. A capacity crowd cheered on their favorite drivers in a very competitive night of racing sponsored by the Larry Green Auto Group in Blythe, CA.

Lucas Oil LATE MODELS
Bobby Keirns (86) held off his rivals to grab first place in the Lucas Oil LATE MODEL Trophy Dash. Local driver Mark Schriner (82) spun out as he approached the finish line in the dash and crashed into the wall, disabling his car for the rest of the evening. Ryan Becker (19) drove his truck for an easy win in the 35-lap main event. This was Becker’s second win in the 2003-2004 Winter Blast season. Becker was followed by Brian Schilling (81), Richard Hooper (16), and Paul Crutcher (0). Season points leader Richard Kerr (56) suffered mechanical problems and had to pull in to the pits on lap 15, which allowed Becker to move into first place in season points.

Budweiser MODIFIEDS
Mike Schuringa (74) stayed in front of Steve Almquist (50) to finish first in the Budweiser MODIFIED Trophy Dash. Several modified cars that normally drive on the dirt track in El Centro showed up at the Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway since they were rained out in El Centro. These guys were determined to race somewhere and drove all the way to Blythe to get into some asphalt action. The addition of five modified dirt track cars added to the drama in the 35-lap Main Event. At the green flag, Chris Weiss (94) pulled out in front and led for the entire race. However, it was no cake walk for Weiss since Larry Gerchman (25) followed a few nanoseconds behind the leader for most of the race, waiting for Weiss to make even the slightest error. To his credit, Weiss hung in there to cross the finish line for a win. Both drivers were congratulated in the winner’s circle for demonstrating superb racing skills and sportsmanship. Weiss and Larry Gerchman were followed by Randy Forbis (46), David Gerchman (23), and Chris Golding (75). Larry Gerchman held onto his first place position in season points.

Sunoco Fuel PURE STOCKS
Brian Faulkner (2) used his heavy foot to win Trophy Dash A in the Sunoco Fuel PURE STOCKS. Terry Elmore (22) drove his car to a win in Trophy Dash B. The Sunoco Fuel PURE STOCK 35-lap Main Event had several lead changes and mishaps. Through it all, Michelle Rouse (90) drove an outstanding race to take first place in a battle of nerves. It was her first win at the Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway. She was followed by Don Olmsted (79), Skeeter Phipps (15), Brian Faulkner (2), and Terry Elmore (22). Local driver Don Olmsted moved into first place in season points, 6 points ahead of Jimmy Rouse (09). John Kelley held onto his third place position in season points. The pure stock points battle will get very interesting with just two races remaining in the 2003-2004 season and the top two drivers separated by only 6 points.

With two races remaining in the 2003-2004 Winter Blast, fans will not want to miss out on the conclusion of an exciting season of stock car racing.
