TRACY, California -- In three outings with the AC Delco Late Models Todd Bammer has managed to pull off the first “Threepeat” of the new season. Bammer was working hard to keep his winning streak going. Not so lucky, Manteca’s David Hulsey had a spin out late in the race making him lose his second place run, this left an opening for Verg Beaty of Ceres’ which he filled for a brief time after struggling all evening. Pleasanton’s Jason Gilbert had been there all evening and managed to slide in under Beaty to finish second. Beaty finished a great third. Brock Monroe from Escalon was fourth and worked for every lap of it. Modesto’s Doyal Moen rounded out the top five. This win was especially nice for Bammer’s two young daughters, Mackenzie and Delaney on Altamont’s first Kid’s Night of the year. You can usually find these two little ladies cheering Dad on from the grandstands. There were also gifts for the kids on this special “Kids Night” was when most of the drivers came out on the track and tossed stuffed animals to all the kids in the grandstands. Drivers signed autographs and a great time was had by all. “Kids Night” will be held again later this season in September. Mini Super Trucks led the way this evening on the quarter mile with a totally surprising end. Ron Mardock from San Jose had the lead by the midpoint; Tracy’s Larry Bohringer was all over his tail. Just a few short laps later, Mardock spun out and Bohringer was right there. Looked like a sure thing, but Tom Moss from Redwood City had other plans. What a break he got as Bohringer got caught up in lapped traffic at the finish line and Moss running the top groove, took the checkered. Bohringer did claim second, Walt Bruegger who was third quick time tonight, also came in third, David Burchett also from Tracy was fourth after having fast time tonight, and Ron Pestana was fifth after starting at the very back of the pack. Altamont’s Pro Truck division hit the asphalt ready to run. This growing group of full sized racing pickups qualified quicker than the ACDelco Late Models tonight. Pleasanton’s Mike Clark in his first outing cruised to the win from the pole position. He was given some competition as several Pro Trucks kept after him. Todd Lynch from Tracy finished a close second, Greg Leonard of Daily City was third, Nick Williams also of Tracy took fourth and Ken Wright of San Lorenzo finished fifth. Of special note was Late Model Tour Driver, Brian Germone, from Windsor doing a shake down ride for Michael Sebastiani who had just purchased the truck. Germone was fourth quick time, and won the Trophy Dash. He was really holding his own during the race and due to a mechanical failure, did not finish. The Spec Motor Modifieds in their second season at Altamont Motorsports Park, had a clean sweep in their division tonight. Glen Cook of Fremont took the top spot for fast time, the Trophy Dash and the Main Event. His red Modified looked like it was on fire and he was running to keep ahead of it! He had the lead by the tenth lap of this 50 lap main. These racing pilots ran an excellent race tonight. Mark Schrader from Martinez took second in his first outing this season. Hayward’s Dino Fry, Jr. was third. Jim Thompson of Tracy was fourth, and Mike Bledsoe from Concord rounded out the top five. Jeff Brissey of Dublin and Noah Salazar from Livermore have stepped up and ran their first race in this division. Brissey was in Mini Super Trucks and Salazar was in the Super Stocks, both did well. Brissey finished sixth and they both took their new racecars home and ready to run the next race! Northern California Modified Association brought in the next class of open wheel excitement tonight as Manteca’s Pat Ariaz picked up the win. Ariaz also won the Trophy Dash and was second fast time. Running a close second was Gordon Rogers of Winton. Rogers was also quick time tonight. Modesto’s Flyin’ Farmer, Ed Amador flew into third, and Rookie John Silva took fourth. Keith Shipperd of Pleasant Hill rounded out the top five. This was an interesting race to watch when you knew that the top four Sportsman sprinters had engines built by the same man, Patterson’s “Dr.” Don Hicks. The California Asphalt Sprintcar Association ran one of the most exciting races the “Fastest Half Mile in the West” has ever seen. Twenty fuel injected sprints put rubber on the asphalt the likes of which have not been witnessed in Altamont’s recent history. The air was electric as they came around to take the green. Brian McClish from Santa Rosa had the lead by the tenth lap and held it until the last. There were several yellow flags thrown, but these rocket ships go so fast nobody noticed! Fremont’s Mark Monico came from the last row to finish second. Young Gun, Daniel Hood from Scotts Valley, worked from an eighth place start to third. Former USAC Western States Champion, Jeff Gardner of Fresno was fourth in his first run here. Chico’s Brad Bumgardner in his first outing this season took fifth. Several notes of interest, Destiny Hayes from Oroville made the trek and did well in her first trip to Altamont. Rookie, Greg Anderson in his first ever sprint race came in a great ninth place, and took his new sprinter home ready to race again. Two of the two-barrel carb jockeys got out and ran with CASA. Pat Ariaz and Gordon Rogers of NCMA took on double duties and did a great job. Special events are going on all season at Altamont Motorsports Park. Next week will be the “Family Night ACDelco Late Model 100” with FREE admission for ALL kids twelve years old and under. The ACDelco Late Models will run a 100 lap feature event on the “Fastest Half Mile in the West” in their 2004 Championship quest. Also on the big oval are the Groth Bros. Chevrolet Baby Grands. The best in grassroots racing sear the ¼ mile with Super Stocks, Mini Super Trucks and the Mini Cup Jr. Stars. See you there!
