DOUBLE DUTY

BAKERSFIELD, California -- It will be a double duty weekend for Mike Mason and the Mason Motorsports crew. Running a late model in Thursday Night Thunder, July 22 on their hometown track, Mesa Marin Raceway, the team will then move on to Altamont Raceway Park for Round 8 of the Davey Hamilton SRL Wild West Late Model Shootout, Saturday, July 24.

"It's definitely going to be a fun weekend," says Mason. "I ran at Bakersfield in the late model division last season and took some wins. Hopefully we can do it again Thursday night. Apart from the fact that I love to race, I know the more seat time and experience I get, will serve to make me a better driver. Since we had some time between events in the Davey Hamilton Series, we decided to pull out our A.S. Mason Trucking and Crane late model Chevy and try our luck."

The race at Altamont Raceway Park will mark the third time Mason has competed on this historic, well-known half-mile. "To date our best finish is 12th," says Mason "The first time I raced this track was earlier in the season. We've now been there twice and the crew and I are much more familiar with what it takes to do well. Hopefully, the familiar saying, 'third time is the charm' will jump into place and we will end up in the top three."

Currently sitting in 12th in the overall point's battle, Mason is determined to end the season in the top ten. "We have four races left and all we need is a little luck. Our crew chief Rick Grissom and the entire crew has our No. 55 A.S. Mason Trucking and Crane Chevy running really well. Now it's up to me. It's definitely time to cinch up those belts and really go for it."

One of the fastest rising stars in racing today, 17 year-old Mason has both the talent and determination to go all the way to the top. It is only a question of time. "I have the greatest Dad in the world," he says really meaning it. He has given me an incredible opportunity and the way to show my appreciation is to run well and that what I intend to do."
